Venus Advances to Semis at Wimbledon

Venus Williams is one match away from another Wimbledon final.

The five-time champion advanced to the semifinals at the All England Club by beating Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 7-6 (5), 6-2 on No. 1 Court.

The 36-year-old Williams won her first Wimbledon title in 2000, and then added others in 2001, ’05, ’07 and ’08.

She then reached the final in 2009, and the quarterfinals in 2010, but has struggled to go deep into the second week in recent years.

Williams will next face Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber.

Eagle Takes Off, Leaves Dodger Game

An eagle that was part of a July 4th ceremony at Dodger Stadium flew the coop.

The eagle was supposed to fly from the top of the stadium down to its handler Monday as part of the pregame for July 4th.

Instead, the bird flew right on past its handler on the outfield grass and seemed to fly out of the stadium via the outfield gate.

It disappeared from view, prompting rumbles of laughter and concern from baseball fans.

The eagle was one of a pair from the L.A. Zoo, which has sent eagles to Chavez Ravine for pregame flights in the past.

A few innings into the Dodgers’ game against the Orioles, the team announced the eagle had been located and was headed back to the zoo with its handler.

The Dodgers won 7-5.

SEO Gamification – Zap! Bang! Boom!

One of the challenges we hear from our clients is about “SEO.”  Those questions usually start with specifics like:

How do we get more traffic?
How can we improve our search engine optimization?
We can’t be found on searches for “[insert your dream search here], why not?
How do we capture a bigger share of local dollars?
Can you help us convert users into repeat users?
Our social accounts are not converting followers/likes into real results, why?

And the like.  All of these questions tie back to things which are blurring together in a very busy market place:

SEO
SEM
Social Media Management
Reputation Marketing

Those diciplines are REAL and need attention and dedication for success. We have expertise so your business will see results like this:

Pardes Still Have Not Scored

The early days of the baseball season are fun ones, because the smallest streak projects out to historical greatness. Rockies rookie Trevor Story is the first player in baseball history to homer in his first three games, and will surely finish his year with 216 dingers. Starlin Castro now owns the record for most RBI in his first two games as a Yankee—seven, surpassing the immortal Todd Greene—which projects to 567 on the season. And then you’ve got the Padres.

Solidly in last place, both in the actual standings and in the much more important small-sample-size Olympics, the San Diego Padres were shut out by the Dodgers in their first three games. That’s an MLB record, surpassing the old mark of 26 innings set by the 1943 St. Louis Browns.

Must the Cubs Win the World Series

The Cubs are light years away from pitchers getting asked about the trade deadline as soon as they report to spring training, or managers sitting on the hot seat, or prospects becoming overloaded with attention to distract everyone from the awful big-league product.

Year 5 of the Theo Epstein administration began on a beautiful, 75-degrees-and-sunny night in Southern California, with fireworks, a flyover and a sellout crowd (44,020) at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. But anxious Cubs fans, the build-‘em-up Chicago media and all those national experts can’t fast forward to October.

There is still more than 99 percent of the season left to play after Jake Arrieta again looked like a Cy Young Award winner while dominating the Los Angeles Angels during Monday’s 9-0 victory. Read more at http://www.csnchicago.com/.
